Innovation research has focused much of its efforts on what is called the fuzzy front end. The term was originally coined by Peter Koen, a professor at the Stevens Institute of Technology. It refers to the creation of new ideas and product concepts.
Classic logic comes down to the law of the excluded third – A or not A, white or not white. In ancient Greece they started to consider paradoxes – a "mismatch" problem, "The world is gray, but science is black and white."
